Christian Union
The CU, or Christian Union, is a student run organisation that meets every Friday, down in the school’s extension area. We spend our time in CU relaxing, playing games, and studying the Word of God.
The meetings would generally start off with a little time to talk, relax, and get to know people. We would then follow with a game of some description, this year’s favourites being “Ninja” and “I have never”. Then we would have our talk, given by one of the committee members, or a guest speaker.
The talks generally have some relation week by week. At the current moment, the topic we are discussing is “Fundamentals for Christian living”. These topics allow for a baseline for our talks, so a sense of development can be made over the year. Speaking from a personal level, I have learned a lot from going down to CU, and it has really built on my character, humanly and spiritually, and in the interaction of the two.
Why go to CU?
Well, if you have any interest in your Christian life, we could be the place for you! CU is a place for reflection, fellowship, and learning.
CU is also a great way to get to know people. At the start of every year, first years get to mingle with other classes, and make friends with people they normally wouldn’t have, due to CU.
Really, it is also a place to have fun! The games are great, as is the company. As some would say, the craic is mighty!
CU Trip 2011- Portadown
“For me, the CU trip away to Portadown in November was, in one word, amazing! Everything from the dorms, to the food, to the games (of which there were many!), the late nights- which were really early mornings- and, if course, the fellowship and prayer, was just perfect. It was a great weekend, and is something I’ll really remember about my final year at school”
John Fallows, 6T
“The CU weekend away was brilliant. Even though we were small in number, we had a great time. All the talks from Andy [Lamberton] were very intriguing. They were all about getting closer to God in our places of work, school and college. I especially liked the Lacito Divina on Saturday. It was very peaceful and useful. On Friday we played games and got to know each other. Then on Saturday afternoon, we went shopping, as the rain limited our opportunities… On Saturday, we played a four hour game of Monopoly, which was a competitive and enjoyable game. After this, we played a confusing but great game of Mafia. On Sunday morning, Rev. Stuart gave us a loud wakeup call by banging a steel tray with a metal spoon. Unfortunatly, we had to go home on Sunday afternoon, but I had a great time and look forward to going again, and would advise others in going too! :)

We would like to thank Ms Shaw and Rev. Stewart for helping immensely in the organisation, and the running of this trip! We would also like to thank Andrew Lamberton for coming to give the talks, which we all enjoyed.
This year, three members of our committee are leaving the school; Chris Smyth, Nicola Whorriskey and John Fallows. They ran the organisation with great love, and without any hassle. It will be a great loss to us to see them go.
