ROYAL AND PRIOR SCOOP AWARDS AT BUTT DRAMA FESTIVAL 2011
On the 9th November 2011, Miss Gordon’s Higher level English class took part in the But Drama Festival at the Balor Theatre, Ballybofey. We put on a short production of the Shakespearean play ‘Hamlet’, which we are studying as part of our Leaving Certificate course. The production took a lot of work and required the full effort of the whole class, with students in charge of areas like costume, hair and make-up, props and audio visual techniques. The weeks of preparation paid off on the night when we put on a great performance. The following night we were delighted to take home most of the awards. We won in the following categories
- Best audio visual techniques
- Best male actor for Hamlet, played by James Dowling
- Best supporting male actor for Polonius, played by Tim Robinson
- Best supporting actress for Ophelia, played by Rebecca Brennan.
- Best overall presentation
- The Butt Drama Festival Best overall performance award.
Special thanks to our teacher, Ms Gordon and our director, John Fallows.

Mrs Doherty and form 2 art classes join up with the Rivers of the World Project
Rivers of the World unite along the Foyle
Art work produced by Form 2 art classes last year, for Rivers of the World, an art and education initiative involving more than 2,000 young people around the world, is being exhibited on the banks of the River Foyle.
The exhibition of local schools’ work from Derry/Londonderry and Donegal and their partner schools in London was unveiled on 28th September and will remain for almost a month at the Loughs Agency. The work first shown in London has been viewed by more than a million people as part of the Mayor of London’s Thames Festival.
Rivers of the World is a Mayor’s Thames Festival project delivered in partnership with the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms and with support from HSBC Global Education Trust. Each year the project links young people from around the world to develop art work based on shared river themes.
They have spent the last year studying the history, culture and environment of their local river – in Derry/Donegal, the Foyle - and, with the help of professional artists, have produced huge art works inspired by what they have learnt. Next year the schools will learn about the River Thames and produce pieces based on it. Check out the website www.riversoftheworld.org for more information and pictures.
